The thought of visiting a junkyard yard, or salvage, to check out parts of used cars annoys some people. It creates a picture of dusty mountains of crumbling cars that pollute a large yard of pollution. Searching for a section can take hours. However, those days are long gone. Today, junkyards trace their list to information. And while things are still quiet, finding the parts you need is easy. Employees can check their inventory, saving you the weight of hours spent looking. Also, cars often arrive at the junkyard smashed to the ground. They are easily dismantled and the parts are put together in groups.
Using the Hotline
Most junkyards use a system called “Hotline.” If you call a junkyard and ask if they own a certain component, they will check their inventory database while on the phone. If they don’t find the part you need in their writing, they can use their Hotline to quickly check the list of neighboring junkyards. Quick Tip with Hotline: ask a junkyard looking at other yards how much that particular piece would cost if they had it on their list. You can negotiate a price with another seller.
How Much Can You Expect to Pay?
