In this article, I am going to talk about the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam. Cloud computing is one of the fastest moving technologies in the world today. With the growing demand for cloud computing platforms, more and more companies have already started using the cloud or are in the process of moving their infrastructure to the cloud. When the question of cloud providers comes up, AWS is preferred by top companies, plus Azure is on the second list after AWS. With this demand, companies are also continually looking for talented people who can help them build and change their infrastructure, all already advising them with their existing cloud infrastructure.
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner is a certification exam offered by Amazon that certifies that the professional knows the basic concepts and services of AWS. This is a beginner exam for those who want to start or demonstrate their existing knowledge of AWS. I personally applied for this exam which I successfully passed with a score of 892 out of 1000 and in this article I will talk more about the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam and the prep modules I went through to pass the exam.
How to prepare for the exam
Although this exam is one of the easiest to get certified on AWS, it is always a good idea to prepare before taking the exam. There are also several white papers and materials available on AWS that are very helpful in preparation. The basic concepts tested on this exam are as follows.
- The AWS Cloud Value Proposition
- AWS pricing models
In total, there are 65 multiple-choice questions of which 70% must be correct to pass the exam, which means you must answer at least 46 questions correctly to pass. From my experience I can say that if you have worked with AWS or any other cloud, you should easily achieve a good result with some preparation. You will also have 100 minutes to complete the exam, which I think is enough to complete.
Resources and materials to prepare
As you can see in the image below, there are several certifications offered by AWS, AWS Cloud Practitioner is one of the basic ones. So to prepare for that, you don’t need a lot of hands-on experience with the services.
In addition to these, you are also encouraged to refer to some of the official AWS technical documents. However, these white papers are extremely long and I didn’t read them very carefully. You can also read the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner ebook, but again, it’s too detailed.
How to schedule the exam
You can schedule the exam by navigating to click here for info and creating a new account. You will then be directed to Certmetrics which manages certifications for AWS.
Once you are in the portal, you can click Schedule New Exam and follow the steps to schedule your exam with an agent. I have selected to continue with OnVue and they need us to install special software that will take the test with. It is recommended to download the software and test it if everything works fine on your machine before taking the exam. Your microphone and webcam should be working fine, as you will be monitored by an online proctor for the duration of the exam.
In this article, I have explained in detail the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam and how to prepare for it. The AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam is an entry-level exam for professionals who want to enter the AWS cloud computing market by demonstrating their knowledge of various services and information related to billing for services.
Once you successfully pass the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam, as a benefit you will get a coupon code that will offer you a 50% discount on your next AWS Certification exam or even on the recertification of the same exam.
