6 Ways Your Business Can Support Education

If you are a business owner, it is time to consider how your company can contribute to public education.

Public schools are designed to ensure that all children have access to an excellent education. Public School teachers often put in extra hours at their jobs, just so they can provide the highest level of knowledge for their students. Despite these efforts, public schools are constantly being underfunded, making it difficult to accomplish their goal of giving children a good education.

If you want to support the success of your community in this area, there are many different ways that your company can help:

#1 Create a scholarship program

If you are a business owner with multiple employees, consider offering scholarships to kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity to continue their education. This is is an excellent way to show your support for public education.

In fact, the US government has a program that makes it easy for businesses to create a scholarship at your business.

While this is a great cause, there are other ways you can support public education as well.

#2 Host an event to raise money for schools in need

If you run a business, consider hosting an event to help raise money for a school in need.

One great example is the Operation Shoe box Project by Operation Homefront.

Every year, this organization partners with community organizations to allow them to distribute shoe boxes filled with supplies, snacks, and toys for kids by Christmas time. In 2015, they were able to help out 43 families in the Cayman Islands.

#3 Offer free or discounted services to teachers and students

Teachers have some of the hardest jobs on the planet – they are constantly working to ensure that their students have access to knowledge by being creative with their resources, and never stop thinking of ways to better educate their students.

Business owners can help by providing free services to teachers and students.

Offer your services for free, or at a discounted price. This serves two purposes: it improves the education that children receive, and it provides excellent advertising opportunities for businesses who are willing to make this commitment.

Already have a bunch of teachers on your customer list? Maybe you could consider offering them discounts, so they can take their students to an event at your business.

#4 Partner with local education organizations

Every single community has different schools and organizations that are working hard to improve the quality of public education.

As a business owner, you have a unique opportunity to partner with these organizations.

You will be able to work together with teachers and students to accomplish goals that benefit the community as a whole.

Here are some ideas for education businesses:

→ Host an event together

→ Give away items during your next promotional sale, and ask people who redeem them to give back money/items to a school

→ Offer internships for teachers or students to gain valuable work experience at your company

#5 Provide internships for high school and college students

“A great way to support public education is by giving students valuable work experience”, says Benjy Grinberg. You can even provide them with educational opportunities that they just wouldn’t be able to get in the classroom.

If you want to make a difference in the life of those students, consider hosting internships. You don’t have to have an official internship program, just ask teachers which students they believe would benefit from an opportunity like this, and then provide it for them.

#6 Support public education through charitable donations, sponsorships, or volunteer work

Another great way to support public education is by giving back to it through charitable donations or sponsorship. There are many different types of organizations that make an impact on the quality of your local school system – be sure to check them out and decide how you can help them!

As a business owner, you have unique opportunities to help improve the quality of public education. By creating a scholarship program for students who need financial assistance, hosting an event to raise money for schools in need, offering free or discounted services to teachers and students, partnering with local education organizations, providing internships for high school and college students, and supporting public education through charitable donations or sponsorships, you can make a big difference in your community.
