Directed by Joanna Quinn and Les Mills, this 16-minute short film is a must-watch. It is a unique, 2D hand-drawn paper-animated short film that is centered around Beryl and her eccentric family. The Affairs of the Art is all about the protagonist’s fixation on drawing and distinguishing herself as an artist par excellence. Since its launch, it has been selected in nearly 65 festival selections and has various accolades to its name.
Robin Robin
A stop motion short film, Robin Robin, made by Dan Ojari and Mikey Please, is 32 minutes long. The story is about a bird that questions where she belongs and sets off on an adventurous journey of self-discovery. This optimistic young Robin feels like a misfit in her family of mice and makes a heartfelt wish on a Christmas star – to learn who she really is. Will she be successful? Will she get what her heart yearns for?
Ala Kachuu – Take and Run
A Swizz short film directed by Maria Brendle and produced by Nadin Lüchinger. This 38 minute long film is about a Krygyz girl who goes to the capital city with the dream of studying and falls victim to bride kidnapping instead. Torn between her compelling desire for freedom and the stifling customs of Krygyz culture, Sezim, the protagonist of the story, seeks her way out. Having had its world premiere at the 38th Rhode Island International Film Festival in August 2020, this short film is a compelling story that will touch chords and leave one in deep thought once the screening is done.
Three Songs of Benazir
An observational documentary that is 22 minutes long, is a work of art by Elizabeth Mirzaei and Gulistan Mirzaei. It explores the universality of man-made confinement and the repercussions it has on those who must abide by its rules. The story of young Shaista and his pregnant sweetheart Benazir, residents of Afghanistan, perfectly captures the story of two people doomed for defeat, dodging one bullet after the other.

When We Were Bullies
A 36-minute short documentary, When We are Bullies, is about retracing a bullying incident that had ensued nearly 50 years ago in the filmmaker’s life, in his 5th-grade class. This involves the filmmaker jogging the memory of his 5th-grade teacher and trying to understand the complexity of the bullying incident. It is directed by Jay Rosenblatt.
Lead Me Home
Directed by Pedro Kos and Jon Shenk, it is a 39-minute short film that follows numerous people on the streets of Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. Intimate yet cast, this documentary is full of contrasts and contradictions portrayed beautifully through aerial vistas and intricate time-lapse videos. It is a dignified portrayal of the American culture’s fraying edges and the hidden details of contemporary urban life.
