Most people want to leave a positive mark on the world. Your calling may be waiting for you to start in your own backyard. Serving your community has the potential to build relationships, increase tolerance, and encourage mutual respect.

Giving back to your community is a rewarding experience that has the potential to spark widespread change. However, knowing where to start can be overwhelming. Fortunately, there are several help areas for people to investigate and start invoking a change no matter where they reside.

Educate Others On Nutrition and World Hunger

Inadequate nutrition and world hunger are one of the most threatening issues on the planet. According to the World Health Organization, hunger affects 9.9 percent of the global population. There are ways you can address this tragic statistic in your community.

For starters, you can educate others on the facts surrounding world hunger and ways that malnutrition can be addressed by using sources like the USANA Foundation. By educating others, you can create a picture that inspires people in your community to go out and make a change.

Volunteer At A Shelter

Most communities have some sort of shelter that allows dedicated volunteers to serve at-risk populations. For example, a homeless shelter is a great location to do your part in addressing issues like world hunger. Generally, homeless shelters utilize soup kitchens or other volunteer-run operations to provide meals for those who need them.

Another shelter commonly found in communities is an animal shelter. Animal shelters are dedicated to taking in stray or abused cats, dogs, and other animals. Volunteers help animal shelters function by dedicating their time to adoption services, keeping the shelter clean, feeding animals within the shelter, and providing needy animals with love.

Help Keep Your Community Clean

A clean community is a happy community! There are so many ways that you can help keep your community clean, starting by leading by example. One of the simplest ways to maintain a clean environment is to be intentional with everyday activities.

For example, if you are a homeowner with a yard, make sure to always keep your lawn cut and maintained. If you are out in public or even in private, always throw your trash away and recycle necessary items. Simple tasks like these will communicate to your neighbors that you are intentional about keeping your community clean and may even encourage them to do the same.

Another way you can keep your community clean is to organize a group of like-minded individuals or community cleanup. After you establish your group, you can create set days for you and your group to partake in community cleaning activities. For example, you may pick up trash in a local park, neighborhood, beach, or even downtown. You can also organize a group to create a community garden. Vegetation is a great way to manifest fresh air and enhance your community’s natural beauty.

Donate What You Can

Most people have items around their homes that are no longer in use. Donating items that no longer get used or items that you have in excess is a great way to give back to your community. You may donate extra furniture, clothing, or even canned foods to an organization that is dedicated to providing care for individuals who will appreciate your donated goods.

If you do not have any items to spare, you can also donate your blood if you are able. Donating your blood can help a cancer patient, an accident survivor, or an individual battling a blood-related disease.

Organize A Charity Event

The last way you can spark change in your community is by organizing a charity event. Organizing a charity event involves identifying a cause you are passionate about and setting a fundraising goal that will be dedicated to that cause. Two common examples of charity events that raise funds in communities are 5k races and auctions.

No matter what route you choose to take, giving back to your community and encouraging positive change will always be rewarding!
