Imagine coming home from work, all hot and sweaty, hoping to relax by turning on the AC, and then you find it broken! What is the use of having an ac in the house if it doesn’t perform to its fullest ability? Well! Don’t worry! It is quite common to have problems with an AC now and then. But if you know how to maintain the device well and take care of the system, you can avoid those unforeseen circumstances. Continue reading this article to learn more about the common problems you might face with your air conditioner.

AC Is Not Turning On:

The most common problem one may encounter is finding out that the device is not turning on. You may check the thermostat batteries to find if they are dead. You may replace the batteries, and your AC will be good as new. Check the thermostat setting to see if the cooling mode is turned on. You may also take a step further and reset the circuit breaker to solve the problem at hand.

AC Is Not Blowing Cool Air:

Suppose your AC is turned on but just not doing what it is supposed to: blow cold air. You may hear a weird noise coming out of your AC, but nothing else is happening. Most probably, the problem lies with your failing AC capacitor. Though fixing an A/C capacitor may require professional expertise, you may be able to do the job by yourself with precise information from a reliable source. To fix a broken ac receptor, follow these simple steps.

  • First, disconnect the power and turn off your air conditioner. And then carefully remove the access panel of your AC to inspect the already installed capacitor.
  • Now, if you want to replace the capacitor, note down the old capacitor’s model number. You don’t want to jam in a different capacitor model in the place of the old one; that won’t just do. Therefore, note down the voltage rating and capacitance of the old model.
  • Once you have purchased the exact capacitor model from the market, it is time to replace the old one. Discharge the old item and carefully install the new one by reattaching the wires to the correct terminals.
  • Now, it is time to test if the installation was successful. Turn on your air conditioner and see if the device is working properly.

AC Is Leaking Water Outside:

It is normal for your AC to leak water outside, especially on a hot and sunny day. If the AC is running for a long time, it is expected to have external water leaked; you don’t have to worry much about it. However, blocked drain pipes, improper installation, broken condensate pan can be reasons that excessive water is leaked from the air conditioning system. You may check the air filters and clean them if they are dirty to avoid the problem.
