Creating a family is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. It impacts not only your life but the lives of everyone involved. There are many things to consider when planning your family, and this guide will walk you through the process step-by-step.

There are different considerations for each stage of the process – from deciding if you want children to find the right partner, to having kids – and this guide will help you navigate them all. So whether you’re just starting on your family planning journey or are already well underway, read on for tips and advice that will help you create the family you’ve always wanted.

    1. Start by figuring out what you want from a family

Figuring out what you want from a family can be difficult. You should think about things like: What do I envision my life to look like? Do I see myself being a stay-at-home parent or working full time? Do I have any other life goals i.e. traveling the world, going back to school, etc? How do I feel about taking care of kids?

Once you have a good idea of what you want from a family, try to work it into your budget. Are you okay with potentially taking on more debt if it means having the lifestyle that would make you happy? If not, will you be willing to save for future things or sacrifice now to save later on?

    2. Decide which factors are most important to you in choosing a partner

When planning your family, it’s also important to think about who you want to parent with. You should consider such things as: How do we work together? What type of lifestyle do we envision having – do we want kids right away, etc.? What are the potential deal breakers in your relationship?

When assessing which factors are most important to you, try not to prioritize one factor over another. Compromising on some things may be necessary but if you feel like you’re compromising more than them it’s okay to open up the conversation about why they want what they do and how you can work together to find a solution you both feel satisfied with.

    3. Figure out how many kids you want

Figuring out how many kids you want can be difficult but it’s important so don’t rush the process. When considering this factor, keep in mind things like: What is my ideal number of children? What does having that number of children look like? Do I want one, two, three kids – or more?

When thinking about why you want the number of kids that you do it can be helpful to break it down into what your life would look like with one child, two children, etc. This is a great way to help assess if the lifestyle you thought would be possible with one or two children would work.

    4. Talk about family planning with your doctor

Once you know what your ideal life would look like having one or more children it’s important to talk with your doctor about the best options for you. Many factors come into play when determining which family planning method is right for you – some of them include: How old are you? Do you have any health problems that could interfere with family planning? What are your personal preferences/opinions on birth control?

It can be difficult to choose a family planning method, so try to find one that works for your lifestyle and schedule. You should also consider how comfortable you feel with each different option e.g. if you don’t feel comfortable putting chemicals in yourself or taking them daily, you may not want to go with a birth control pill. It’s also possible for you to consider getting an abortion pill from clinics located in different parts of the country.

    5. Be sure that your family planning method is right for you and will work effectively

When figuring out the best option for you it’s important to consider lifestyle factors as well as the effectiveness of the different methods. For example: Do I typically feel good every day? Do I have a good grasp on my schedule every day? How many times a day/week do I typically eat? Do I take any medications that interfere with fertility or birth control?

If the doctor has recommended a family planning method for you, then consider if it’s right for now. When trying to figure this out try to assess whether the doctor’s advice is right for you based on the lifestyle factors mentioned above. Sometimes it can be tough to tell if something works by simply reading about it so if possible, talk with others who have used that method of family planning too.

Though it can be difficult to think about all the factors involved in family planning, it’s important to do so. Aside from talking with our partner, you should also consult with your doctor before making any final decisions about family planning.
