3 Tips to Prioritise Your Skin Health This Summer

Just like the rest of your body, your skin needs TLC. And even though you may not think about it often, your skin is actually your largest organ. It’s important to take care of it year-round, but it’s especially crucial during the summer when you’re spending more time outdoors and exposing your skin to harmful UV rays.

Here are three tips to help you prioritise your skin health this summer, from wearing sunscreen to downloading a skin cancer check app.

Wear sunscreen – and reapply often

This one should go without saying, but it’s worth repeating: always wear sunscreen when you’re going to be outside, and don’t forget to reapply every two hours (or more if you’re sweating or swimming). Even if it’s cloudy out, UV rays can penetrate the clouds and damage your skin, so make sure you’re applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day.

Check yourself for skin cancer – it’s easier than you think!

It’s unfortunate, but skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer, which is why it’s important to perform regular self-exams and get checked by a dermatologist at least once a year. That being said, self-exams can be tricky, and it’s easy to miss something.

That’s why downloading a skin cancer check app is a great way to ensure you’re checking yourself properly. Just download the app and follow the instructions – it’ll guide you through each step of the exam, so you can be sure you’re doing it correctly. And while you’re at it, periodically check yourself for new moles or other abnormalities.

Keep your skin hydrated from the inside out

Drinking plenty of water is crucial for keeping your skin healthy and hydrated. Aim for eight glasses per day, and try adding some fruit or herbs to your water if plain H2O isn’t doing it for you. In addition to drinking plenty of water, use a hydrating face serum or moisturiser on your face and body after showering or bathing. Just remember to avoid products that contain alcohol, which can actually dry out your skin.

Summertime is the perfect time to show some extra love to your largest organ – your skin! By following these tips, you’ll be on your way to having healthy, happy skin all summer long.
