Great Men Are Not Born Leaders; They Have Built the Leadership Qualities Within

Most great entrepreneurs and leaders like Jeff Bezos, Oprah Winfrey, Larry Page, John de Ruiter TV, and many other notable names took up leadership positions and affected tremendous changes that are still being felt for generations to come. These people did not wake up one day and meet themselves in those positions; instead, they worked towards attaining those leadership roles.

The notion that great leaders are born with an innate set of qualities has been a widely held belief for centuries. However, research and observation of successful leaders suggest that leadership is not an inherent trait but rather a skill that can be learned and developed over time. In fact, many of the world’s most effective leaders have honed their skills through hard work, dedication, and a commitment to personal growth.

When MLK was asked about leadership, he made one notable speech that goes thus; “A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus.” Once you start questioning something in your society, you are on your journey to being a leader. The primary step to being a leader is self-awareness. 

Developing Leadership Qualities Leadership is a journey that requires continuous learning, practice, and self-reflection. Successful leaders understand the importance of developing a growth mindset and continuously seek out opportunities to improve their skills. They focus on building strong relationships, fostering collaboration, and empowering others to achieve their goals. Effective leaders also possess excellent communication skills, can inspire and motivate their team members, and are comfortable with taking calculated risks.

Self-awareness is a significant point. 

Once you become self-aware of yourself and your surroundings, the yearning to do something different sets in. At first, you have to understand yourself and what your drives, motivation, weaknesses, strengths, and other vital details that will help you know aspects of yourself that need to be fixed and improved. Once you have become self-aware, you will become a better version of yourself as a leader. 

Learn to ask for help.

Leaders like John de Ruiter know and learn how to delegate duties. Have you ever wondered why leaders have so many subordinates or team members? It is because a single person cannot do everything normally. So, it’s okay to ask for help when you feel you need it. Also, asking for help does not make you incompetent. It builds up a cordial relationship where your followers feel involved and relevant. Practice healthy habits

There are a few qualities an efficient leader must possess to be successful in their leadership roles. Their honesty, confidence, trustworthiness, diligence, commitment, positivity, creativity, accountability, effective communication, decision-making skills, patience, willingness to learn, and many more. There is a requirement to carry out assessments and observe qualities that you might be lacking. As a good leader, you are supposed to try to develop these qualities either by talking to someone or through personal development. Most of the world’s renowned leaders did not become leaders just by their abilities; they learned from people they modeled their lives on.


All great men started their leadership journey with so many challenges that were overcome along the way. Some of them built confidence, public speaking skills, and a lot more as they set their foot on the leadership path. Do not feel inferior because you noticed you have some shortcomings. You have to do continuous growth in your self-development through various methods. After all, as humans, we are not supposed to stop learning. So, great men are not born leaders. They are individuals who have worked hard to develop their leadership skills over time. Through continuous learning, practice, and a commitment to personal growth, they have honed their abilities and become the successful leaders we know today. While some individuals may have certain inherent traits that lend themselves to leadership, it is ultimately the hard work and dedication to self-improvement that sets great leaders apart from the rest.

The ability to lead effectively is not inborn but built from experience, self-development, and training. No doubt, learning and leadership are obligatory to each other.
