In the last year alone, almost 65% of adults saw a dentist for one reason or another. Dental visits are no longer solely for preventative health. Many people visit the dentist for everything from wisdom tooth extraction to cosmetic dentistry.
Another reason to visit the dentist is if you’re experiencing pain or symptoms of some sort. Do you have a consistent toothache, for example? If so, you may be in a situation where you need dental surgery. If you’re experiencing dental issues, we suggest that you get rid of plaque at a dentist in vienna.
Always visit your dentist to find the root of the problem (no pun intended!). Until then, it may help to understand the different types of dental surgeries. Here are five common types.
Let’s begin!
Table of Contents
1. Wisdom Tooth Extraction
This surgery is the extraction of one or more wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are extra teeth in your mouth that emerge near the back of your mouth. This can be dangerous if left unchecked, as it can cause damage to your gum and can lead to infection.
Fortunately, not everyone has wisdom teeth, and even then, not everyone who has wisdom teeth has them come in. You could be one of those people, but you’ll have to check with your dentist to know for sure.
You may have impacted wisdom teeth that can cause other teeth to shift, so be sure to ask your dentist if they recommend you have yours removed sooner rather than later.
2. Dental Implants and Oral Surgery
Dental implants are used to attach crowns to the jawbone using titanium. This involves some heavy surgery, as the bone has to be properly fused.
You may need to consider dental implants if you’re on the verge of tooth loss or you end up having to lose teeth at the dentist.
3. Root Canal
Root canal treatment (surgery) is performed to remove bacteria from an infected root canal. It also prevents the possibility of reinfection. During the surgery, the infected pulp is removed, the tooth is cleaned, and then it is filled up.
Root canal surgeries are notoriously painful, but the doctors will likely put you under for the surgery and provide you painkillers for your recovery.
4. Cosmetic Surgery
In today’s world, there’s no shame in adjusting the way you look. Some people think teeth are the best aspects of people, and some people just want to have a nice smile or may be self-conscious about crooked, stained, or chipped teeth.
Whatever the case, cosmetic dental surgery is an option if you want to improve your pearly whites. If you have a chipped tooth or something similar, cosmetic surgery could also be an option to fix that, giving you great results in a short amount of time.
5. Reconstructive Surgeries
In some cases, there are issues with the structure of your jaw. You’d undergo surgery to get that fixed, this would be reconstructive dental surgery.
If you’ve suffered severe damage to your jawbone and/or teeth, reconstructive surgery would be performed.
