Last Updated on January 25, 2024 by Asfa Rasheed

You’ve been invited to play a round of golf over the weekend. The problem is that you’ve never played golf before in your life. How can you perfect your swing within a week?

The answer is that you can’t. It takes years of practice before you get that good. What you can do is use the week you have to get better at golf.

As long as you go in with the right mindset and keep the basics in mind, you should be able to keep up with everyone else on the green. Check out this guide to learn how to get started.

1. Know When to Back Off

Sending your ball right into a sand trap is the worst. It can take forever to get it out. Believe it or not, the solution isn’t to use your club to hit the ball as hard as you can.

Knowing your luck, you’ll knock the ball off course or right into another obstacle. It will take a lot of time, but this is an instance when you need to back off.

Slowly work the ball out of the trap and back onto the green. Your score will suffer a lot less in the long run.

2. Have a Favorite Club

When you get into a pinch, the best thing you can do is take out your trump card. We’re talking about your favorite club. Using it will give you a huge boost of confidence that you need to turn the game around.

When you get a new set of golf equipment, experiment with your clubs until you find one that you love to use. Practice every type of golf swing manageable with it.

3. Use Technology

Technology is there for a reason. You might as well use it. Phone apps make great scorecard alternatives.

Apps with a GPS feature can help you keep track of your ball and warn you about obstacles before they become a problem. You can even use them to book the golf course. This being said, you shouldn’t lean on technology too much, but taking out your phone every now and again doesn’t hurt.

4. Change Your Attitude

It’s easy to give into a fit of rage when you mess up on the golf course. Try to resist throwing your club down on the ground, though. That doesn’t help anyone.

Besides, once you get angry, you’ve already forfeited the game. Golf is all about concentration. You can’t keep your mind in it if your brain is too clouded by rage.

Take a few deep breaths to calm yourself. Having a clear head will make it easier for you to calculate how to turn your mistake around in your favor and make a comeback of the century.

Get Better at Golf Fast
