Are Facial Fillers Really That Different From One Another?

Age affects everyone. Physically speaking, aging makes the skin thinner, saggier, and more wrinkly, and seeing your body deteriorate can be emotionally distressing. As time goes on, the body loses its natural elasticity, which causes the skin to droop, and because we constantly use our facial muscles, we develop such imperfections as crow’s feet, frown lines, and marionette lines. This, of course, is hard to accept, but the good news is that there are many ways to prevent aging with FDA-approved facial fillers.

Different Fillers Have Different Purposes

Facial fillers are medical products that clear scars and wrinkles, enhance the lips, and restore soft tissue volume. For example, a tear trough filler is used to fill bags, dark circles or hollows under your eyes. These compounds can be injected in less than an hour, but their results can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. Once the filler has been reabsorbed by the body, patients usually return to their doctors for checkups.

There are a lot of dermal fillers out there. Juvéderm, a cosmetic filler brand owned by Allergan (the pharmaceutical company that also makes BOTOX), provides a wide array of treatments, including Voluma XCUltra XCVolbella XCVollure XC, and Ultra Plus XCRestylane, on the other hand, offers DefyneRefyneLyft, and Sylk.

The most amazing part about these brands is that their products can be used for a wide array of issues. Voluma XC, for example, eliminates lines around the nose, the mouth, and the chin. Sylk, on the other hand, is used exclusively for lip enhancement.

Juvéderm

Juvéderm has a long line of fillers that aim to restore facial volume. The “XC” in each of its products’ names refers to lidocaine, an included local anesthetic.

Voluma XC

This product gives a youthful curve to the cheekbones. It is primarily used on women, and its results can last up to an astonishing 2 years.

Ultra XC

This treats smile and laugh lines around the mouth, filling the lips with hyaluronic acid (HA) and lidocaine. Results last only about 6 months because, of all of Juvéderm’s products, it has the lowest concentration of HA.

Ultra Plus XC

This particular compound has a thicker consistency than Ultra XC. It uses HA to add volume to the lips. Results can last anywhere from 6-12 months.

Volbella XC

This HA filler is designed to plump up the lips. Results can last up to a year.

Vollure XC

Vollure XC smooths the nasolabial folds, also known as smile lines. It can deliver up to 18 months of correction.

Restylane

Restylane also uses hyaluronic acid. Compared to Juvéderm, its results last considerably longer.

Defyne

This filler eliminates wrinkles between the nose and mouth. It can also be applied to the sides of the chin. Results can last anywhere from 9-12 months.

Refyne

Refyne corrects all kinds of wrinkles and supports natural-looking facial expressions. Results can last up to a year.

Lyft

While this filler is similar to regular RestylaneLyft’s hyaluronic acid particles are larger, and allow it to better hold its shape. It is best used on wrinkles in the cheeks and around the mouth. Results can last from 1-2 years.

Sylk

This filler adds fullness to the lips and eliminates wrinkles around the mouth. Results can last up to a year.

Is BOTOX a Facial Filler?

Contrary to popular belief, BOTOX is not a facial filler; it uses a neurotoxin to prevent the facial muscles from contracting and forming new wrinkles. Much like fillers, though, it can drastically increase facial volume. Results last between 3 and 6 months, so patients normally revisit their doctor for touch-ups.

Non-Surgical Facelift

A revolutionary non-surgical treatment, called the “liquid facelift,” is becoming increasingly popular. Compared to a traditional facelift, which can take 2-3 hours to perform, a liquid facelift can be completed in 30 minutes.

Traditional facelifts require the surgeon to cut the skin and lift facial musculature. Non-surgical facelifts, on the other hand, only require the doctor to inject facial fillers — typically Restylane or Juvéderm — along with BOTOX. Liquid facelifts are a fantastic way to rejuvenate your appearance without any scarring, and recovery time is only about 2 weeks.
