Creative Ways to Capture Moments with your Newborn

Last Updated on March 3, 2024 by Asfa Rasheed

You’ve brought your newborn home, and all’s right with the world. Having a baby seems to push everything else into insignificance. Now, you have a tiny human to look after and love endlessly. Although a beautiful time, you also have a nagging feeling in the back of your head that it won’t last forever. How do you capture these moments before they disappear? Here are some ideas!

Take Photos (and Have Photos Taken!)

At the time, it’s easy to want to spend time with your newborn without devices. You don’t want a camera in their face at every moment, but you still need to capture some photographs for the family album.

Although it might sound simple, don’t be afraid to ask people to take photos of you holding your newborn. New parents often spend most of their lives taking pictures of family and friends holding their newborn, or just taking pictures of the newborn alone. When the baby is slightly older, parents realize that they didn’t get many pictures with them (and it’s impossible to turn back the clock!).

Start a Memory Box

While some people start a scrapbook, others create a memory box. Ultimately, what you put into the memory box is completely up to you. For example, it could be a locket of hair, a hospital bracelet, a newspaper from their birth date, or the clothes they were wearing when coming home for the first time.

Take Handprints and Footprints

Ask any parent of teenagers and they’ll tell you that the newborn phase is the one that disappears the quickest, so another way to capture this moment is to take handprints and footprints of your newborn. Thankfully, it’s easier than ever to achieve this with special inkless print kits. You don’t need to worry about paint or any other mess.

As well as storing some prints in your memory box, why not put the prints onto this year’s Christmas cards (or thank you cards after the birth)? Prints are the best way to remember just how small your baby’s hands and feet were as a newborn.

Get a Professional Photo Shoot

Next, you could also track down a professional newborn photographer Perth has for some close family members. This way, a professional will capture some beautiful moments and ensure that you have memories to last a lifetime. While taking photos is a good start, a professional will know how to get the best pictures possible. These are pictures that will sit on your walls and go into albums for many years to come.

Keep a Diary

Pictures are a traditional way to capture moments, but new parents are also finding success with a diary. Even if you don’t have time to complete an entry every day, just make a note on the key days. For instance, this includes trips to the zoo, meeting relatives, baptism, and other key events. In the future, both you and your child will have lots of fun reading back through your diary entries.

Elsewhere, others choose to write letters or just make notes. Either way, you’re ensuring that these moments live on. If you have a pen and some paper, you’re ready to go.

Do a Scrapbook

Finally, it was mentioned earlier in this guide, and this is because it’s a great option for parents. In a scrapbook, you’ll essentially combine all these tips. You’ll chronologically capture moments with photos, handprints, footprints, professional photos, diary entries, and more. Eventually, you’ll have a full scrapbook to look back through with your child.

Of course, the most important thing is to have fun and make the most of every moment!
