Over 22 million people in the United States tried at least one paddlesport in 2018.

Are you curious about trying out one of these fun activities?  Are you confused about where to start?

Read on to learn all the facts you need to know about paddlesports.

Those who are looking for an activity they can try out on their own or in a group should consider paddling a kayak. These are usually single-occupancy boats that you row with a two-sided paddle.

You need to be careful when you’re kayaking. If you lean the wrong way, you could dunk yourself in the water. You may want to use a spray skirt to prevent yourself from getting soaked while you kayak.

And, there are many fun activities you can do when you’re kayaking. If you like to fish, look into inflatable fishing kayaks the next time you hit the water. People who already like to surf can try out surf kayaking.

But, you don’t have to limit your use of kayaks to the water. Next time it starts snowing, try snow kayaking so that you’ll be able to enjoy your kayak even when the weather isn’t cooperating.

Do you want to try a paddlesport that’s a little slower-paced? Try taking a canoe out on the water. You can take your own canoe out on the water alone, or you can paddle your boat with a partner or two. This is a wonderful way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon.

But, there are also fast-paced canoeing options if you want to try something more exciting, once you get used to the canoeing process. Canoe marathons have become quite popular in recent years.

If you’re a big fan of sports, you’ll definitely want to try out playing a game of polo using canoes. You just need to make sure that you can get enough people together to play a proper game! Using either canoes or kayaks, you could put together a game of whitewater slalom once you wrap up your polo game.

The flexibility of canoeing is part of what makes it one of the most popular paddlesports out there. And, the skills you learn from canoeing are transferable to other sports, too.

Standup Paddleboarding

Those who are looking for a relaxing activity will want to consider standup paddleboarding. All you need to start standup paddleboarding is a board and a paddle. And, the skill level isn’t as intense as other paddlesports, making it a good entry point for beginners.

Of course, you’ll still want to take appropriate safety measures. Wear a lifejacket, especially if you’re not a strong swimmer. Always ensure that someone knows where you are, in case of an emergency.
